This is a simple iPhone and iPod Touch application that let's you learn the Japanese characters (Hiragana and Katakana) the same way Japanese people teach young children.

Pick a set, then swipe through Tsumikis (Wooden Block) with an illustration associated to the character for easy mnemonic.

Double Tap on the Tsumiki to see the back of it, with the answer, and learn basic vocabulary at the same time.
